Groundhogs

I have not seen these in years past, but found one trapped inside one of my fenced-in 4x4 squares--I had to open up one corner to get him out. I found several lettuce plants eaten in one of my beds.

Since then I have erected a perimiter fence (1" poly) with about 6"-12" flat and staked to the ground. So far I have not seen anymore evidence of groundhogs. I am thinking that if they have to tunnel under, at least now I will see the evidence and can deal with it--problem is I think they could do a lot of damage in one night before I can respond.

I am not allowed to shoot them with anything--even a pellet gun (Twp discharge laws). And I am loathe to use any kind of poison that might impact other animals. So defensive measures are my only option. Anyone else know of proven measures to keep these monsters out of the garden? Thanks!

Sounds like so far you are doing the right thing, so good.......maybe someone else has a more accessible garden Wink

we do not have ground hogs, just deer, however we have this "tool" called "YARD GARD", it is a motion sensor that emits a very high pitched noise that most animals can hear, but most humans cannot.
So if a critter comes into the range it emits this sound.

Not sure but it sounds like it might work on groundhogs.
