Do lizards eat strawberries ???

I had a couple of nice plump strawberries about ready to harvest. I went out the next morning to pick them and all except one was gone. When I went out to the garden, I saw what looked like a chipmunk running away from the garden so I assumed that is what ate my strawberries. Therefore, I put a critter cage on top of the bed. I went back the next day and my last strawberry was gone. I found it partially eaten a few squares away. The only thing small enough to get thru the chicken wire is a lizard. We have lots of them. Has anyone ever had lizards eating their strawberries.

I could cover the bed with Tulle but will I have a problem with pollination if I keep it covered or will wind pollinate the berries.

Could the chipmunk have gotten *under* the chicken wire? And you'd be surprised at how small a space they can squeeze through.. I found a ground squirrel in my zucchini tub one night. He had gotten in under the hardware cloth cage and then couldn't get out.

I'd bet rodent before lizard, but that's just me. Our lizards just eat the bugs. You could try bird netting too I guess! That won't prevent pollination.

I have never seen a slug in the 30 years I have been gardening in Georgia so I don't think that is the answer, but thanks for trying to help. Also, would a slug detach the strawberry from the plant and deposit it about 3 squares away ???
