Hello,

Since I live in the tropics, I have to do a dry-run on a lot of vegetables to see how they grow here. So, my first box will be 4 x 4 and basically be the "experimental" box. I plan on building more as I figure out what grows well, but for now this will be where all the magic happens.

I need quite a bit of trellis space, so I was going to run a trellis down the middle of the box, East to West. So then, there will be a non-trellised, East/West row at the North end of the box, two trellised rows (again, running East to West) in the middle of the box and a final non-trellised row at the South end of the box. Sunlight is not a problem, as the space gets 12-14 a day. Orienting the trellises East/West should keep them from shading the non-trellised rows on the outer edges.

Am I missing anything obvious here?

I trellised my peas east to west if that makes you feel better Very Happy . Any idea what you are going to experiment with first? You might have trouble with some greens that like the cooler weather like lettuce and spinach but if you like greens you could try malibar spinach which likes heat!

Thanks for the input. I'm departing from what is apparently the norm here, by having the trellis in the middle of the box instead of along one side and having two, instead of one, per box. I don't think that will have any negative impact, but I am new at this, so would welcome any advice.

I've got quite a few things I'm trying. I have some heat-resistant lettuce varieties, but also ordered some malabar spinach too. Great minds thing alike...

I think you'll be fine. I've done my boxes/trellises every which way and I'm only in a semi-tropical area.
