In the Beginning...
At the moment we're in the middle of winter which has actually been fairly mild for a change, only about 3ft of snow so far, quite often we have over 7 ft of snow over the winter...
This is where I live, out in the bush a couple of miles outside of South River... We have 5 acres most of which is conifers...
Those are what used to be the chicken sheds, but will become my new
potting shed and seed starting shed... the fenced area in front of the
sheds is where the new fruit and veggie garden will be...
As the seasons move on and so does the work I'll add more to my albums...
I've ordered the SFG book and another one about companion planting...

Welcome to the forum.
It sure looks peaceful there! Have you found a spot for your garden that gets 6-8 hours of sun a day? I'm surrounded by firs too, and have to have the garden on the very north side of the cleared area.

I don't know which is more beautiful - your property or the raspberries!
Welcome, and enjoy reading!

Orientation of the new garden
The sheds are on the south side, the near fence is west, the far fence is east and the trees are north and east... so west is open and south is partially sheltered by the sheds... does that make sense?....lol
That new garden will have 8+ hours of bright sunshine...the sun is overhead before noon and in midsummer doesn't go down behind the west side trees until after 9pm so they'll have plenty of sunlight...
I chose the Raspberry avatar because I'll be growing Raspberries.. On our property we have wild raspberries, wild Loganberries and wild Blueberries... each year I watch and wait for the time when I can pick them, then when I go to pick them they're gone... the wild critters get there first... Black Bears especially.... but we have various birds, squirrels, chipmunks... that's one reason I'm fencing off my growing areas... I plan on digging up some of the wild Raspberries, Logan berries, and Blueberries and transferring them to the new garden.... That way I leave some for the critters and get some for myself...
I have seeds left over from last year and have already sent in my seed order for other stuff plus some Asparagus roots...
I'll be growing:
Tomatoes, Cherry, Beefsteak, red, yellow, purple, Roma and normal sized...
Peppers, Sweet, large and small, the small for stuffing
Summer Squash, Scalloped, Zucchini, yellow and green
Jerusalem Artichokes, one 17ft X 4ft bed all to themselves.
Mint, Wild Chives now domesticated
Bush Beans
Cucumber
Picking Cucumbers
Lettuce
Rainbow Chard
Kale
Beets
Various Herbs, Dill, Savory, Oregano, Basil,
Carrots
Sugar Snap Peas (LOTS)
And I can't remember what else...lol
