I wish I had a picture...
but I don't so I am going to throw this out there and see what will come of it.
I found an insect that looked like an ant but it was bigger, 1/4 inch or so and had a hard shell and colorful, yellow/orange/red. Didn't think of a picture at the time but now I am curious. I have never seen it before. So if you might have a suggestion it would be appreciated! Oh and I didn't find it in the garden if that makes a difference
Thanks,
Connie

Connie, did you see the bug ID thread? There is a picture that looks like what you described, and it is a lady bug in the making. (A good thing!) Another suggestion would be to google images and see what turns up; good luck!
