Transplanting Tomatoes

Does anything use the technique Mel describes in his book; the one where he lays down part of the stock of the tomato and covers it with MM? Does it really contribute to a stronger, healthier root system?

I don't lay mine down because, well I find that just burying it deeper down works just fine for me. But the techniques works really, really well. Very Happy
