ANTS amongst my Strawberry plants
Just went out to take a look at my 3 sqaure foot gardens - I have strawberry plants from last year in all three. One of them is infested with blank ants, lots of them. What do I do? Do I attempt to get rid of them? Pull the plants? Help me please. Linda

some suggestions I found. Let me know what you try and how it works out for you. Last year my zucchini were not in my SFG boxes (long story - and this year they will be! But I'm not feeling guilty... ) anyway, they got overrun with ants, but before I decided what to do about them, powdery mildew got them.

I got rid of a colony of ants last summer by sprinkling the area with cornmeal. Apparently the ants eat the cornmeal, can't digest it, and die. It took two applications, but it worked for me!

I did the cornmeal thing last year as well and it seemed to help.
Ants have come up in another thread and a few members suggested using cinnamon as a deterrent.

Gold Bond Powder
Ants HATE Gold Bond Medicated Powder! The stuff works like a charm.

Re: ANTS amongst my Strawberry plants
Thanks for all the replies - I am going to try the gold balm medicated powder i think first - hopefully chase them away vs. killing them..... and then put the cornmeal outside of my boxes so they can have a snack after they leave the box. I don't want them croaking inside my box - the thought of all those little dead ants amongst my starwberries kind of freaks me out a bit. Thanks again !!! Linda
