heating pad too hot??
I went out and bought a horticultural-grade heating pad for starting some seedlings yesterday, and planted 2 flats of summer annual flowers. I was out there today having a peek and the soil temp seemed VERY warm? Is there a danger of cooking the seeds? I put a tea towel between the heating pad and the bottom of the seed tray... Do you think my seeds are toast???

Re: heating pad too hot??
I have had a heating pad for years, and never really felt that it was hot.
I found that things germinated faster on top of my hot water tank, than my seed germinating pad.
I would be interested what others would say, but mine never really got hot. The seeds that were on the pad DEfinately germinated faster than the ones that were NOT on the pad.

I guess time will tell. They'll either germinate or they won't... Such is the way of the sprout...

KK in the ANSFG book 2006 edition at the back on pages 260 & 267 there are some temperatures and info relating to germinations of seed .
Can you get a thermometer on your heat pad say under a folded up hand towel for five minutes or so and see what it is running at?

Re: heating pad too hot??
Most seeds like quite a bit of heat (80*F plus) in germinating. The warmer the faster in most cases. How hot is hot with yours?
