Aargh! Can't believe I did this!

This is my second year starting tomatoes from seed, and so far it's been going well. This year I have the grow lights, haven't had any damping off and a lot of my seedlings look great! My problem? When I potted them up, I forgot to mark on the containers what some of them were! Embarassed

I'm hoping they are the same as some of the others that are marked so I can tell them apart later. Guess that's what happens when I get interrupted......

I am only laughing because this is so something I have done and would do again. Smile

It reminds me of when I adjust a recipe so much and forget to write it down and my family likes it, and I can't remember what I did. Smile

Sounds like you will have "mystery tomatoes" for a while. Smile

You could run with it and have "Mystery Tomato Salad" and "Mystery Tomato Sauce" and "Mystery Tomato Salsa"...the possibilities are endless. Smile

At least if you had any potato-leaf varieties, those will stand out... Smile

What I have done is write on the peat pot, only to find that the writing disappears when it gets wet.....

And I've knocked the little labels out of the pots before and there were too many varieties to be sure what went where. You have to wait for them to grow a little to see what they look like as a crop, but variety will be a fun mystery. If you planned to save the seeds later, you'll have to forget it. Its all part of being a gardener.

So glad I'm not the only one who's done this! I like the "Mystery Tomato Salsa" and "Mystery Tomato Sauce" ideas. I was planning to save seeds from all of them - maybe a new variety: "Mystery Tomato Seeds"?? or "Scatterbrain Heirlooms"? Laughing

I'll admit to losing a label for a tomato last year I wanted to save so isolated it anyway. It turned out round and red and juicy and tasty and I loved it so saved the seed marked with my name. I plan to try at least one plant this year and hope that I may one day figure out which variety it was from its offspring. I saved several heirloom and OP varieties last year. When another comes up that is a twin to the mystery tom, I'll know which it is.

:lolsignwave: Last year when I was harding them off, my dog stuck her paw thru the fence & pulled the tray holding the seedlings over, dumped some of the pots and pulled ALL of the markers out. Most of the seedlings survived but I had several types of tomatoes, mostly cherry & smaller types. I'm growing them all again this year. I really liked them all but there was one with a different leaf that was harder to keep pruned but I have no idea which it is so am trying them all again.

This year so far I have one possible mixup as I did not mark one when up potting. It is my ? one that I will probably not end up using as I do have too many started. This time mine are marked right on the yogurt cup pots.

Hey, look on the bright side. At least you know they are all tomatoes. I planted cucumbers and tomatoes in the same sq ft because I got distracted and forgot what I did. And then I didn't know which is which (because I was garden-dumb back then and didn't know the difference in leaves), and had to go through the conjoined twin separation eventually. As a result, I lost my tomato seedlings. Cucumbers survived. Smile

This all reminds me of the time my son needed Campbell's soup labels for something so he removed all of the soup labels and put the cans back into the pantry. Tomato or Veg. Beef?

last year I planted several veggies and the labels disappeared. I planted them all thinking I knew what each one was.
I spent the whole summer wondering why the Swiss Chard only stayed about 5 inches tall and gradually the roots started rising from the ground.

Dug one up and it was orange beets silly me

HUGE because I had ignored them all summer.

I didn't get distracted. I'm just plain clueless. I planted lettuce on top of carrots. When the lettuce was gone, I picked the carrots. For this year, I bought a box of popsicle sticks and a box of tongue depressors. Everything will get labeled this year. Hopefully, the ink won't wash off the wood.

Lindacol......You probably had potato-leaf toms. Did you grow Glacier or Stupice? I know they have the potato-leaf.

Nope, they were Tess's Land Race Currant & Tonadose des Conones. I also had 2 Super Sweet 100 Hybrid toms but the fruit is larger, cherry size while the other 2 are smaller. One of the smaller ones had different, smaller leaves and it was more difficult to prune.
