5" of Mel's Mix or 6" Altered
Hello, I am starting my first SFG and bought mix for 36sf box (18cf). My final box turned out to be 48sf so I am 3cf short. I have 3 cf of a organic potting soil with a blend of compost, peat, and other "stuff". My big bags of vermiculite source has sold out. So I am going to go with the 18cf of MM and 3cf of this potting soil I have.
Would it be better to have the top 5" a "pure MM", and a bottom 6th inch of potting soil, or should I blend in the potting soil with the MM? Or should I spend more for some small bags of vermiculite or pearlite?

I would mix it all together also. Keep a note of the mixture ratios and then if you want to you can correct it when you make your next bed with any spare Vermiculite etc?

Given that over time your MM will be less vermiculite and peat moss, and more compost, I'd just mix it all in and move forwards.
