Companion Gardening

SFG seems to lend itself to companion planting...or does it?

I've sort of seen it addressed in individual garden plans.

One of my fellow community gardeners created raised boxes for his plot. You can find his videos on youtube under Garden Grove Community Gardens. As you watch his little vids you'll see he changed his layout from the first year to the second, and now does more vertical gardening.

I met Tim a day or two after I rented my plot. I'd not heard of companion planting before, and in read up on it that night, and looked up SFG, too. I asked him the next day if he was a fan of Mel's, and he didn't even know who he was! He used boxes because his grandma always had, and she had terrific results.

The thing I noticed about his boxes and companion plants is allows for crowding. With the crowding you have less chance for weeds - leaves of plants provide shade coverage to the dirt. (Obviously not using Mel's Mix!) But do the roots have enough room?

I'm in the plotting stages of mine. Boxes built, ready to plant...exciting times!
