Should they stay or should they go?
Almost all my tomato plants survived the winter due to only two nights that dipped a degree or two below freezing. There are leaves with damage on them but there are a good number of tomatoes that are full sized an nearly ripe.
I have seedlings almost ready to be planted. Do I leave the existing big plants in there which were planted early fall or were they probably scarred by the weather and it is best to put the new ones in? Or... do I remove half of the old and plant only half of the new ones?

If you have the room, you might want to try saving one or more of the healthier "second-season" tomato plants.
I've had this situation several times and usually cut back the survivor(s) quite a bit. Sometimes they come back with a roar! For example, I planted a Champion nearly three years ago, and it returned with a vengeance the following summer, producing about three times as many fruits as during the first season!

My huge yellow pear plants were all over wintered last year and did very well. I agree with cutting them back a bit and letting them come back. They should have a nice big root system already.
At least that is what I think, but to me, it's all just a big adventure!
