I'm married to an electrician, and when I told him I needed 1/2" conduit to build verticle frames, he asked if I needed EMT, IMC, or rigid.

If anyone has used conduit for their frames, what type did you use?

Sorry, I just couldn't help but laugh at that. I have no idea what kind of conduit you'd need, but I'd like to see how an electrician builds the frame.

The chapter in the book that describes vertical gardening says rigid.... I only saw that word once, and not where the 'materials' were outlined - but I guess that would be what you want.

LOL EMT

"I'd like to see how an electrician builds the frame." Within 1/8 inch of spec!

Me, when I use a bender, I also use a saw on the long leg, and weld the cut off piece back on to the short side!

Rigid is overkill unless the trellis is humongus, not to mention way more expensive.

I asked my father in law the same question...and got the same question back. Why you ask? Because he's an electrician also. Type of Conduit Used for Verticle Frames Icon_rolleyes

EMT should do you fine if you have the rebar as a base support to hold it upright stiffly..It's also the most economical...Rigid can be downright expensive when using the store bought 10 Ft length sections... My Lowes had 10 Ft. 1/2 inch Rigid for around $11.00 each section and the 10 Ft section of 1/2 EMT conduit is $1.87 each.... The EMT should do you fine, just make certain you use a section of rebar to stake it into the ground with...
