Frames for SFG Beds - I have previously posted photos of the PVC frames for my beds. There are 1" PVC "cup holders" for the frames so they are easy to switch out. This 2' x 7' table top bed is ready for the winter seedlings. (and will be covered with bridal tulle  Very Happy  )  I store the pieces for each bed in a plastic sleeve for protection. During the summer, the trellis was tall for overhead support for tomatoes. Frames for SFG Beds - Versitile PVC frames for Protection Tomato10

Last winter I grew snow peas in the left half and kale, chard, etc. in the right side.  The tall supports were wrapped with nylon trellis. (not shown) Frames for SFG Beds - Versitile PVC frames for Protection Winter12

Thanks everyone.

Marie, you can see more because the plants are still small or removed. Wink

Those are neat, Sanderson. I made ones similar to that to provide frost protection to extend the growing season both for early spring planting and for fall to protect plants from early first frosts.  Here in Ohio, we don't need shade fabric like you do, but we sure do need frost protection.

Short PVC pipes were embedded in the beds to slip the overhead frames into. I put caps on the pipes when not in use to keep dirt, etc, out of them.

The frames are inserted into the larger PVC pipes.

The PVC frames are covered with row frost cloth.

Thank you for posting this, Sanderson. We will probably use this method when we build our new boxes.

Are these frames strong enough to support the weight of tomatoes and cucumbers?

Leone,  Yes, the 1/2" PVC is strong enough for tomatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupe and winter squash, etc.  I do use string to help hold the horizontal sections together as nothing is glued together.  This photo shows the winter green house frame which is super tied-together to withstand whatever winter throws at it.  For the regular bed frames, only the top joints are secured with string. Thanks Sanderson, I missed you guys too.

Regarding PVC, keep in mind there are usually 2 different thicknesses sold in the big box stores.
Schedule 20 and Schedule 40. There may even be schedule 80.
The higher the schedule, the thicker the pipe.
With that said, I would use at least Schedule 40.

I see I didn't hit Send when I replied to Ralitaco's suggestion on using Schedule 40 PVC.  I checked mine and yes, both the 1/2" PVC frames are Sch 40 and the 1" cup holders are Sch 40.  My husband bought cheaper grade 1" PVC for some of the cup holders and the 1/2" frames really rattled around in them.  The Sch 40 1" provide a snugger fit.
