Was talking to a lady in town about rain barrels and how I would like to have some but don't have gutters. She says, "don't need em" Just make sure your rain barrel has a wide open top with a screen on it and set under the eaves at the drip line. Might now get as much, but she says hers fill up nicely.

Tell me again how that differs from a large 5 gallon bucket? Wink

Small five gallon bucket 640 ounces is a US one. Large one is an old Canadian one of 800 ounces. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Thats true Walshevak my old neighbor has always lined his garage roof line with 5 to 30 gal bucketes and does very well with water collection. Not real pretty and does grow mosquitoes if it sets a while which he smothers with a skiff of oil on the top that stays separated. We also get pretty generous and even rainfall thru the growing season. He then pumps the water into 55 gal barrels for storage. For some reason I could never get him to put up troughs to tidy and simplify the operation. In real dry times he takes a couple 55 gal barrels and his gasoline driven pump down to the river to supplement rain water.
