Watering
Do you water every day? What do you use as a guide to decide whether you will water or not?I watered yesterday, but went out this morning, and the soil is moist so I left it alone. I read a lot about this plant needing an inch a week, and that plant needing 2 inches, but honestly I have no idea what this means!

Re: Watering
I stick my finger about 2 inches in the soil, if moist I leave it be, if dry I water... scientific huh?
In the summer i end up watering about every other day, sometimes daily.

Re: Watering
The good news is that if you followed Mel's mix recipe, you can't over-water, as long as the box drains ok. I take that to heart and water heavy.
CP's technique works for me. Just be sure to get deep into the box to see how much moisture there is towards the bottom. In my larger, deeper boxes I leave a square empty just so I can stick my hand in down to the bottom.
There was a thread about moisture meters a while ago, some folks get very erratic, undependable readings from them when used in Mel's mix.
Some folks in the greater Phoenix area water twice a day.
My personal watering habit: in the summer, if the sun is shining in the morning, I water. If it's not, I don't. (another scientific answer for ya!)

Re: Watering
Scientific, ya say?
After seven years of studying the growth and development of various vegetable species, I recently had an epiphany:
If it grows, it grows. If it doesn't grow, I'll try something different next year!

Re: Watering
I love it. Truer words were never spoken.
And I have the same highly scientific methods, the soil probe, the weather watch...all very high tech!
