Bitter Cucumbers

Back in May I guess I got bored so I planted pointset cucumbers at first they grew and produced very good then the heat started, the plant was still trying to cope with the heat and still producing fruit but they were so bitter you couldn't eat them I tried cutting off the ends and rubbing them to remove the bitterness but it didn't help much. So now the plants are gone and were getting ready for the fall plant.

Next time try Burpless Bush from Burpee. Mine produced through all of our heatwaves and they were always crisp and sweet. I picked them small and I never let the plants dry out. They were the nicest surprise of this miserable summer. Cool

I have hit upon Muncher as a good heat resistant cucumber. PicKling as a second favorite but it has to be peeled. My husband does not like Armenian and similar cucumbers (the types with groves down the sides) that also survive hot summers. But, he does like Munchers. It's hard to grow a bad one. The traditional Straight 8 and Marketmore never did well for me in hot Fresno.

Today I started planting my fall garden outside and I planted Armenian cucumbers I like them better while there small and thanks to Has55 for the info on that seminar I think it was What to grow in the heat I'm trying Suyo Long it's suppose to be good in the heat, I'll let you know. I will keep Muncher and burp less bush in mind for spring
