Belated Hello from SE Iowa
I joined the forum over five years ago but never posted. Didn't have much to add that would be of interest.
My first SFG was created in 1987. I became aware of Mel's methods via a PBS series. My first effort was a raised bed with stone borders. I used 12"x12" cement blocks for walkways/ perimeters. No grid used. Many years of usage in Houston, Texas.
My latest are five SFG boxes 4'x4' in Iowa. I originally used wood strips as urged in the later update. This spring my grids were in horrible condition. I had available some surplus 3/8" steel rebar. I cut each bar to size and fastened with fence staples. The result was both sturdy, attractive and probably will long out last me. Last week I posted about this in one of the grid post areas.

Re: Belated Hello from SE Iowa
I'm new to this forum, but, like you, I started the sfg method back in the 80s. Welcome back.
