Thanks for the info.herblover wrote:Kale will keep producing up to and even after light frosts; gets even sweeter then. I usually do a late summer planting since the early ones do start fading after the summer heat.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
We had radishes AND radish leaves in our salad. And we are using herbs such as Basil and Oregano.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Volunteer arugula and bolting parsley in tabbouleh, and a side of cooked radish greens from the radishes that were bolting and didn't 'radish'. Tried the leaves raw in salad, but my husband found them too rough/tough both times. Even cooked they were challenging. I should have cut them smaller and cooked them longer, or maybe just picked a recipe that involved obliterating them with a blender/food processor. It seems some varieties are hairier/spikier than others and some of mine this year are...well:

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I got mine from our son's mother-in-law, fully grown. I have never been able to grow them (or chives) from seed.Scorpio Rising wrote:Pretty! Great pic, looks yum! I only had 3/16 onions germinate....learning. How did you start your onions, Reyna?
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I started the yellow onions from seed in my aerogarden last fall. The red ones were started from sets in early February. I also started shallots at the same time but had no success.Scorpio Rising wrote:Pretty! Great pic, looks yum! I only had 3/16 onions germinate....learning. How did you start your onions, Reyna?

After!
I had a Depression Era turnip sandwich, reminded me of my Dad. Bread, butter, sliced turnip, salt. Yum!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Fresh chopped basil in an omelet, using eggs from our own chickens.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Fried zucchini, we've been having this a couple times per wk.
But, our Silver Queen corn silks are just beginning to brown, not really ready yet. Well, we are expecting to get maybe 8 inches of more of rain in the next couple days. So, we went into the SFG, felt the ears, and choose 4 for supper. Oh my, the first corn of the season is so good!

First greens harvested from the SFG this year for a green smoothie ... a couple of Pak Choi leaves and some really small lettuce leaves.

Strawberries; the last of the season. Kale...LOTS of kale. A couple of green peppers.
Picked 7 baby hornworms off a tomato plant. Seems kind of early for those, so in a few days, we can start harvesting the first of the grape tomatoes.
I'd show you some pics, if I can ever find the cord to my camera.
Yeah, no smart phone here.
