Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Still eating a few Asparagus tips most days , they go well as a side dish smothered in butter along with a bowl of rather thick potato ,celery , leek & onion soup made with home made chicken stock

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
CC, a lot of our bowls look like Beetles'!
Meat, I love the spring radishes. So mild. I did roast some radishes last year with other root vegetables, turnips, carrots, potatoes of various colors and it was really good! Surprised me! I think of radishes as cold salad type of thingies. My dad always liked salt on them! He even made radish sammies....bread, butter, salt. Yep. The Depression must have been great (pun intended). And onion sandwiches too. Which are actually pretty tasty.
Sounds delish, Dave!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
So far the only thing I am eating from my garden is MM from mixing it and planting into it. Tastes rather bland and the white things are hard to chew. The good thing is that it retains water so that I don't need to drink as much on hot days.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Yesterday's bowl was re-runs (lettuce and two radishes), but today I had spinach! One variety is bolting (Dash) and the other (Butterflay) isn't, yet.
TD - LOL! I try to not eat the MM... but it's happened to me, too. And I somehow got one of the woodchips from the paths into the salad last week.

Pine needles and oak leaf bits here. I too think of it as extra fiber.BeetlesPerSqFt wrote:

But not so much the droplet sized slug I almost ate tonight.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Ack. You've reminded me of the almost-ate that resulted in me now calling the snails in the garden 'crunchy slugs.' Cleaning up the garden has helped reduce their numbers, and they aren't as much of a problem in the raised beds.... but eew, I hate finding them crawling out of the salad spinner because it probably means there are more still in there.CapeCoddess wrote:Pine needles and oak leaf bits here. If you eat slugs, be sure to prepare them properly (I was trying to find a picture of what my snails look like, and some how ended up here):

There's a recipe for slug fritters....
(Sanderson, please don't ask me to move that to the recipe section! )

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I had escargot once or twice in a fancy French restaurant. They were delicious, drowned in butter and garlic!
Here is what I picked today
Lots of leaves! Black seeded Simpson, last spinach, and some kale.

It's for scale! And so I have photographic evidence of the last place I knew I had them. I misplaced BOTH pairs of scissors last year. Found one pair in the car over the winter , and the other pair just reappeared at some point.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I am eating my fresh herbs on and in just about everything now. For instance, I make my own fresh herbes de province (a mix of thyme, savory, Marjoram, oregano, rosemary) on my fish, poultry, vegetables etc. And I make an herb pesto that we like with shrimp or chicken and pasta (with olive oil and sea salt). The spring onions have poked up an are being used already too. I nibbled on a couple o asparagus, but we're giving them a bit of a break 'til next year

Grilled asparagus (my first try), as well as steak with various seasonings, including home-grown rosemary.

Chard, onions, garlic, and more cucumbers. Burp. And, lemon basil and oregano on pork chops.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
That's amazing. So what do you plant once it gets too hot? Or do the summer veggies keep going?sanderson wrote:Chard, onions, garlic, and more cucumbers. Burp. And, lemon basil and oregano on pork chops.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
TD The first of anything is exciting!
CC, The garlic and onion were recently harvested. The chard is near the end. The fresh herbs are either perennial or this year's crop. I also harvest and dry herbs.
From now on, no more planting, except maybe replacement herbs as older ones bolt. Fresh summer-fall veggies will be herbs, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, beans, cucumbers, melons. Then fall planting!
