Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Someone here mentioned that the did an indoor setup for their lettuce in the summer and it worked really well. I'll go search indoor and lettuce and see if it yields any results.
EDIT: I couldn't find the thread so I started a question to see if anyone has some answers. You might want to look for the thread.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
There was a thread over the weekend about starting seeds. Aero cycle I think

I had a big bowl of greens from the garden this morning for my green smoothie! Broccoli greens, radish greens, bok choy swiss chard and lettuce! I'm on Coastal BC and am LOVING that I have garden bounty already - when traditional gardeners haven't even hardly started! Woot!

I hear that, kittykat! Except for the chard, I'm eating the same things along with spinach, kale and different onion greens. Here's hoping for a long spring this year.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I'll be having asparagus from my garden today with my pork chops. I am harvesting some every day now. These below are the first ones ever for me.....
I couldn't believe the fresh wonderful flavor of a spear. It never tasted so good. And that was without any cooking.
Plus a salad made with some green and red lettuce leaves from my coldframe. I might even cut a couple of Swiss chard from the greenhouse bed and some fresh chives. I'm looking forward to supper tonite.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
My feast from my garden is nothing compared to the rest of yours! I was thinning my lettuces, green onions and beets yesterday and had enough for a super mini teeny salad, lol! I was so amazed with the flavor of the onions as I had quite a bit of them. After I rinsed my greens, I ate them, roots and all. I think it could all fit easily into the palm of my hand! The measuring cup they are in is an 8 cup measuring cup. There is something to be said for planting too much where you have to thin them. I found that if two plants are right next to each other and you need to pull one, pull it to the side. It seems to prevent the other from coming out with it. If need be also push a little dirt back to cover the remaining seedling. When I pulled straight up, it usually pulled the neighboring plant next to it. Aren't they perty!

Yummy!! I partially pulled a radish a couple of days ago, still a thin little root. Still buying organic salads at the grocery store. Im beginning to think that the birds ate all the seeds, except one.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
In the past day or two I've had squash, new potatoes, cucumbers, swiss chard, cabbage & strawberries. Can't wait for those tomatoes to start ripening! So ready for my first BLT of the season- they taste so much better with a fresh-picked tomato!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
A couple of minutes ago I tasted speckled 'forrelenschluss' lettuce right out of the up-potted solo cups. Finally sweet tasting leaves, a first time personal victory!
The original plan was to move them outside when they got bigger. But I've experienced 2 disappointing years of bitter lettuce. This time I'm keeping these darlings near the back door where it will receive far less sun.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Llama.....Transplant a few lettuce into some shallow pots and keep them by your back door. You can shift them into shade when it gets too sunny. The leafy varieties can be cut back at least up to 4 times (my own experience) or you can harvest a few outside leaves on them for your salad.
I kept cutting back these two pots of 4 heads each nearly all summer last year.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
All Summer? Wow And What a beautiful picture, thanks!!! That's exactly what I am doing this time around. I wasn't planning to keep them in solo cups lol! I've got 2 more varieties of lettuce to sew, somehow when they failed in the heat mat stage I didn't replant. Off I go.quiltbea wrote:

Pepper, that is a gorgeous bounty!
We had our first salad last night. Red lettuce, radishes, mustard greens (all from the cold frame), cilantro thinnings, chives, and 3 asparagus spears.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Well, let me see. I had a great salad from tomatoes and cucumbers, which I made from my garden veggies. This year production is so great.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Poached egg from my happy hens atop a fresh bed of mixed baby greens (spinach, ruby chard, red and green lettuce). Sprinkled with chopped green onions, sliced radishes, chive flowers, and a splash of herbed vinegar and oil dressing. For dessert hot rhubarb compot over homemade ice-cream.

Another tiny Allstar strawberry. I must say that the flavor is delicious!
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Today using basil on my beef fajitas for lunch, waiting on my tomatoes and rep pepper plants to have a fresh salad, can't wait. We are new at planting, and will learn as we go on fertilizing time etc., interesting reading in which plants can coexist(tomato, basil etc.), I'm interested in knowing how to plant onions (sweet, red). Is already 86degrees.
