Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Cut off most of the garlic scapes today and steamed a few for lunch. Have picked two heads of broccoli so far. Could have fried green tomatoes whenever I want to, several are tennis ball sized. There are a few beets that could be had too. This seems like the earliest garden I can recall.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Yesterday we had spinach and basil which went into a pasta dish. So good, so good...
As an herb, nothing is better than fresh basil picked right out of you garden and eat'n less than an hour later. And think how much money it saves!!!

Fried brown rice with some of my walking onions and one of my last 2 bags of beans from last season (dragon's tongue and tenderpod - I have to make the one remaining bag last until harvest this year )

Pasta thyme frittata with thyme
A handful of mesclun
2 strawberries
I find it a very rewarding feeling to go into the garden, pick something and be able to feed your family.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I had some polska kielbasa (beef) that I needed to use up this weekend. I marinated the kielbasa in bourbon, then I sauteed the sausage until it was browned (every now and then I added a bit of either chicken stock or the bourbon used in the marinade to prevent burning). Then I put in some sliced onion and garlic (with a bit of liquid), letting that soften. Then I added about half a cup of orzo pasta (the rice-like pasta) and about three times the amount of liquid
(bourbon, chicken stock, and soy sauce), letting the orzo cook. After about ten minutes, I started adding the vegetables (I used broccoli, peas, zucchini, and peppers) to cook. When the liquid was mostly boiled out, it
was done cooking. It tasted amazing.
The broccoli, peas, zucchini, and garlic scapes came from my garden. Alas, my peppers are nowhere near ripe, so those were store-bought.
What I learned? That uncooked garlic scapes are really not edible. That's the extra green on my dish - I had cooked some and thought to use the rest as garnish. Doesn't really work - they were way, way too tough to eat raw!

Eating today
Charles B -- I'm glad to see your blueberries are getting ripe. I am going to Scranton the last week in June and hope to pick a lot there from some bushes at my boyfriend's house. I am going to try to get a few clippings to try to start some from his bush. I know it's not the right time of the year, but if they don't grow I might be able to get more later in the year. He has passed away 16 months ago, and his daughter is preparing to sell his house, so this year might be my last chance.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
3/4 lb of broccoli (main heads on three apollo plants and a few sideshoots on three atlantis), couple dozen radishes, baker's dozen of the first super sugar snap peas, last of the spinach (12 oz; and pulled the plants), and more lettuce than we know what to do with!

This was my third year trying to get blueberries. Really nice to finally have success with them as they are one of my favorite foods.

Today we are featuring brocolli and tomorrow spinach. We are steaming the brocolli tonight, then spinache tomorrow, then so stir fry brocolli on Wedensday.
First brocolli of the year and cailiflower a couple of weeks away.
How long do brocolli last after picking and best way to store it???

We cut the broccoli early in the morning before the sun is up that way they are in the best condition .
Store in a jug of water in the fridge , place them cut end down into the water , renew the water each day and rinse off the broccoli before putting back in the clean water .. we usually get upto a weeks storage this way .
We have also cold water washed PSB shaken off the excess water then bagged it in tied off poly bags and put it in the fridge .. it was good for five days and still better than supermarket stuff .

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Harvested so far:
1) Snap Peas - still some on the vines - yummy!
2) Lettuce: Buttercrunch, Salad Greens and Romaine
3) Garlic: most of my garlic except for about 4 or 5. The garlic I picked have to be cured, etc.
It is great to so many of my veg's growing!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Some sweet 100's, the first jalapenos, and some sugar snap peas (yummy!!)
Yesterday I went to a local blueberry farm and picked a gallon!! ($9!!)
I am a little worried about my tomatoes at the moment... we've been getting TONS of rain.. I found two sweet 100 tomatoes busted open today. Wonder how many I'll find tomorrow... pictures from the barn today:

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Gosh, love those blueberries.
Even in Maine, we are harvesting already. I've picked rads, lettuce, greens, turnip, pak choi, parsley, tarragon, chives, broccoli, and yesterday, a quart of mostly Sequoia strawberries.
I've tried the trick of washing them with 10 parts water and 1 part vinegar. They are in the fridge. I'll let you know if they keep longer with this treatment.

Still eating the usual here...swiss chard, romaine, buttercrunch, spinach, sugar snap peas, kale, radishes, strawberries, leaf lettuce who's name I forget, more snap peas, and something that I'm not sure what it is but eat anyway. Did I mention sugar snap peas?
My toms are about 3 inches tall still, as are the carrots, beets, cucs, pole beans, peppers, pak choi. Altho the zucchini is doing well with flowers and some spag squash seeds just sprouted.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I harvested more boccoli, pak choi, and Swiss chard today. We're having a chicken casserole today and some will be included in that. Also another quart of strawberries. I've got to get some whipped cream tomorrow. The sugar peas have blossoms. Hooray.
