Rabbit poop with straw/hay
Ok, this is for all you folks who appreciate rabbit poop:
A family that is close to us has a bunch of "bunnies." I asked for their little golden nuggets and I've been getting nice bags full.
My question is: Interspersed in the rabbit poop is either straw or hay rabbit bedding. Yesterday I meticulously separated the poop from the bedding and added the "pure" poop to my compost.
I was worried about straw or hay seeds getting into my compost. Was I being paranoid, or is this possible?

Re: Rabbit poop with straw/hay
Hi windmere,
I would just toss it in the compost pile and not worry too much. If anything, the hay would be slightly more problematic than the straw, but really not that much. The heat from the compost will kill most potentials.
Got that garden in yet?

Thanks
Hey Bob,
Thanks for your response. I will just add to compost pile. Certainly is a lot less work.
Sigh, no I have not set up my beds yet. I have had a few health problems, but I hope to do it very, very soon. I have a bit of bought time in that most all the plants are in peat pots that are still big for them (5" pots).
My wife says, "Yeah, yeah... I'll believe it when it happens." I think yolos and my wife are on the same page.

Re: Rabbit poop with straw/hay
Use it with the beddings , turn the pile and keep it damp by giving a quick water spray every three inches of rebuildin the heap to kill the seeds ( if any ) .
It makes for an incredible compost when done with othere stuff .
Some straw and hay has been de seeded very well ( shop purchased stuff in plastic bags usually ) straw or hay off the farm won't be as seed free hence the need for hot composting.
