I planted choi sum for the first time in late April. The seed pack says harvest after 40 days. It doesn't list final height or variety or when to plant. When we buy it at the store, it does have the flower, so I do expect it to bolt. The tallest plant is 6" tall. The ones we buy typically have leaves that are 6".

Now that it's started to bolt, will the leaves, stalk and flower get bigger? Or will it go to seed?

I'm thinking I planted this too early. I was hoping for a spring harvest, so I could use this square for something else for summer planting.

This is a new one for me, and with a Filipina DIL, I have been exposed to a lot of Asian greens.

Choi Sum is like a raap. Pick it when it starts to flower. If you wait the stem will get tough. I am guessing that your soil was not high enough nitrogen for a big blast of leafy growth, or that you had a hot spell.

We have had occasional blasts of hot days. I tried to compensate with extra watering.

These were planted in MM.

Hmm, I guess I'll harvest these as micro choi sum. Sounds like some garnish at a fancy restaurant.

Rather bummed because my spring harvest has been perennials (rhubarb, thyme, sage). Mignonette and Simpson lettuce is also micro. The mesclun that did come up is looking good.
