Little holes in Pak Choi

Hi,

I've noticed that there's a few small holes on my Pak Choi. Even on the ones in my new box that I transplanted about a week ago. None of the other veggies looks like this though.

We're basically in the middle of winter here and we've been having some rain and wind the last few weeks. Can this be the reason? Or is there something munching away on it. Aphids maybe?

I don't know if slugs are a problem in South Africa, but it is something to look for if you have been having rain and everything is damp.

Hi and thanks for the reply.

Yes, slugs is a problem here. I've had some problems with them a month or two ago, but then made a simple trap for them which proved to be very effective. I just took a pie container, turned it around, cut out two "entrances" for them and put some dry dog food inside. For the first few nights when I went to go check the trap at about 10PM I found at least one. For a while now I have now found any.

I'm going to go check again tonight, but the holes are smaller than they were when it was done by slugs. But it might slugs after all.

I also have frost netting over my boxes at night and when the weather is bad. We don't get frost here, but it helps to keep them slightly warmer and cover them from the wind. Should also make it a bit more difficult for the slugs to get in.
