I'm trying a bit of Wintersowing.
I'm really getting anxious to start my seeds for this years garden but that can't happen til sometime in Feb so I thought I'd try Wintersowing. I checked out a couple of articles, including the one at Wintersown.org and found a few empty soda bottles, cut them off, punched 3 drainage holes in each with hammer and screwdriver, added about 3" of potting soil, wet it down, added seeds, covered them with a bit more soil, and propped the tops back on, fitting them together and taping with packing tape.
I've got cauliflower, parsley and broccoli seeds in the 3 bottles. They will sit on the garden bench taking the cold, snow, rain, winds and whatever Mother nature throws at them for a couple of months and then we'll see if anything is sprouting in those bottles. I understand I don't have to do a thing now until spring. Could anything be easier? Well, I'll find out if it works or not by March. Oh, and its been added into my Garden Notebook with variety of each as well.
In the meantime, it fulfilled my need to 'garden' yesterday when the temp reached an unusual 50*F. The ice hanging from the honeysuckle was able to melt.

Re: I'm trying a bit of Wintersowing.
I am going to have a go with some 4 liter milk bottles. Can't wait for this weekend .
If nothing comes of it then very little time and effort is lost. If it works out, wonderful.
