I am still on my first year and have lots to learn.

We had hard frost about 2/3 weeks ago. All the summer crops wilted away, but due to illness did not get pulled up. Today, I decided to clean up and plant some spinach(more later) The bell pepper plants are coming up from under the ground! I pulled the first 1 and noted the green leaves. Left the rest, just cut off the dead part. I don't really expect them to do anything!

I went to the garden with my zippy of spinach seeds. I planted seeds several weeks ago and well, thought they did not come up. I pulled back the pine needles to plant and there they were, spinach plants! Maybe they only sprout at certain temps?

I planted lettuce seeds, and none appeared to come up. Now I have lettuce in all the beds, all different kinds!

Your 8a+ zone allows you to have lots of fun where two of my beds are tarp covered for the winter and I recently got sick so not able to check my third bed with broccoli and some garlic. But thats all I have left until spring. Does the heat make you call it quits in mid summer or can you go year round?

I knew the heat from a row garden would make me quit by July, so I put my SFG under a big pine tree, and the shade helped me and now I can garden pretty much yr. round.

Smart thinking by you to put SFG under a shady tree in the south like that. The heat isn't as oppressive for your plantings. Go girl!
