New use for Ball Starter Kit Basket
Hi,
Last year when I was new to canning I got the Ball Starter kit that comes with a bright green plastic basket and a few other gadgets. I happily canned my way through a ton of spaghetti sauce and more than 48 jars of jam, before deciding to get a larger set up. Well I still have that basket and the pot I bought to go with it. I do use it to can a 3 jars at a time every once in a blue moon. However the plastic basket works really good to blanch beans. I can work much quicker than draining the water after every batch or fishing the beans out one at a time with a slotted spoon. I thought others might enjoy a way to get out of a hot summer kitchen quicker. Happy canning.

Great tip, Patty:cheers:
Now why didn't I think of that? I have been freezing veggies and chasing them around the pot with a slotted spoon for much too long.

I use my pasta pot for blanching - the huge insert with holes for quickly lifting out and draining the pasta works great!

thanks! I just used it to blanche tomatotes ( to remove the skins), worked like a charm. Also, I used a potato masher to make my sauce, again worked like a charm.
