Eggplant help
I'm growing eggplant for the first time. It gets blossoms, they look all pretty for a few days and then they fall off. Any suggestions?
It's a TT garden with mel's mix. We are in the 100s for daytime temps but it's been doing this since before we hit the high temps.

Oh dear! How often are you watering? Eggplants like LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of water.claramaybe wrote:I'm growing eggplant for the first time. It gets blossoms, they look all pretty for a few days and then they fall off. Any suggestions?

Re: Eggplant help
I grow eggplant and since I'm in SC, I planted in the shade. They love warm weather and plenty of water. See if you can give some shade from the afternoon sun and they also love a overhead sprinkle from the hose once in a while.

Re: Eggplant help
I have 6 eggplant plants: 3 black beauties and 3 little fingers. We have had very hot weather as well. It has been the 100's. (I can't even believe I just typed that.) They grow in full sun with no shade and are producing gang busters. The black beauties have been producing for about a month and the little fingers are just starting to produce although not big enough to pick yet. My growing medium is Mel's mix and I water in the morning and afternoon. I have to admit that I have used miracle grow two differernt times because they are heavy feeders. After I pick all the "little fingers" I will give them another shot of miracle grow to give them a boost.

Re: Eggplant help
Yeah I feed mine too, I top dress them with compost and compost tea to the foliage, when ever I remember.
Re: Eggplant help
I'm growing 2 black beauty eggplants, TT box, temps in the high 90s, full sun, no extra love except I water twice a day (when I water everything else), and mine are producing like crazy! I don't even like eggplant. They were a mercy buy from the nursery for 75 cents apiece at the request of my son. ("Hey, Mom, I think I like eggplant. Can we get some?")
BUT one thing I have noticed is that the bees love them. There are always a few bees around the eggplants. Have you seen any bees visiting yours? If not, perhaps that's why the flowers end up just falling off. Now that I think about it, mine did that too at first. Then the bees came. Maybe you could try hand pollinating them? I know that works with cukes and such, but I really don't know about eggplants. I hope someone with more experience than I have will step up and help you out.
Best of luck!!

Re: Eggplant help
I had the same problem, but they started producing once we started watering them extra. A tip from the good folks on here.
