The Prodigal Son

Good Morning fellow SFG'ers
It has been a long spring / early summer. Terrible hot weather but it finally rained last night and looks like a good chance of rain this morning.
We have been super busy with the tomato green house, the extreme heat caused the fruit to be small but the flavor was exceptional. We managed to sell the majority of the tom's, LW had to can about two bushels, she made Ketchup, salsa, and whole toms. I was expecting between 3 and 4 thousand pounds but only harvested about 1800.
The experimant was succesful enough to warrant a fall crop so we have already started the seedlings.
I pulled a dozen plants from the greenhouse and transplanted into 5 gallon pots, built a 8 foot tall trellis (wire ) and added auto dripper system all outside the greenhouse.
The toms all have a degree of early blight so I stripped the plants down to the suckers at the top, I hope to train them horizontally. All this just to have some extra summer tom's.
The little store has been grossing average of $500 a week from a mixture of fresh toms fresh SFG peppers, sqaush, zucc's and cucumbers as well as the canned products as well.
The berry orchard has not produced at all been struggling to just keep the bushes alive.
ALL of the surrounding gardeners have plowed under their gardens because they couldnt keep them watered, we are watering daily but due to practicing the SFG garden method we are still getting a abundance of veggies, the sqaush and zuccs are 4- 5 foot long vines, they have spilled over the box and are now taking over the walkways. I have squash bugs in the boxes that DONT have basil planted in them.So from now on there will be at least one basil in every box.

Hi JayBird: I'm fairly new here on this Form. A great place to visit.

May I ask how many square feet you have and are thyl all the SFG method? I have about fifty squares in total and I know I need many more to really make a go of it.

The fact that your neighbours have stopped because of the watering really says something about SFG doesn't it?

Due to the shortage of veggies around your way, does that mean you can get a bettrer price for your efforts?

Our price is always comparable to the grocery store regardless, I couldnt consider raising prices due to hardluck of others,

Many of our customers actually bought their seedlings from us and have suffered the agony of defeat with this texas drought, they are amazed at the condition of our garden when they come by to buy veggies, I am sure Mel has sold a few more books due to my explanation of how the watering is so much more effieciant, and my personal favorite no more weeds!

I have 512 sq outside and 288 in the greenhouse, all SFG the only thing we have in Dirt are the berries and fruti trees, and I am wishing I would have built boxes for them as well. Maybe next time.
