Box Placement

I am trying to figure out where exactly I am going put my box(boxes) this year. I was thinking about putting on a empty concrete slab that I have in my backyard, it gets the best sun and is the most open part of the yard for rain. After thinking about it though I am not sure if its the best place, with the concrete being the bottom I don't know if I will get appropriate drainage.

Whats yalls input?

Do a quick search here on TableTop SFG or TT beds or something close. You will see all sorts of things to help with drainage.

One would be to put plywood on the bottom, drill your drainage holes, and maybe prop up just a touch off the concrete.....maybe only an inch or less. You should be fine.

But, the threads specifically talking about similar issues will help you a lot more than I can. Good luck!

I think it would a great place and possibly dress up a normally unused area. The sunshine is sooo importantan for your gardens. I have tabletops myself because of knee problems, but you don't have to build them as high as I did. Really look at the area and consider some longterm options as well. Depending on the size of the slab and availability of water and electricity, and how close to the house, you can go in so many directions.

will it be okay to put them right onto the concrete or should I raise them a bit?

BBG has a good solution here. You should raise the bed a bit off of the concrete to allow for drainage, either with a brick at each corner and one in the middle or something even shorter. A plywood bottom with drainage holes is an easy way to hold the MM inside the box.
