WOW! That's something to see! My hubby said it brought back old memories!
I will have to show this to Josh as he is a SFG child and has no idea of the work people had to put into their gardens.
Thanks for sharing it!

BLLLLLAAAAAARRRRRGH!!!!!! That kid was playing with Arsenic!!! And for the spraying, I hope he did like Clinton and didn't inhale. Yeah, that would be a stretch.
I can't believe how many diseases that garden had. Anyone know which diseases are more common with SFG? I suspect that certain blights would be controlled because we water the soil and not the leaves. I can just imagine the stuff they spray on the veggies at a commercial farm, they must have "Stay out of the Garden" days once or twice a month after they spray the crops.

my favorite part of those old videos are the narrators, they always have the same tone and sound so serious.

I've seen all those tools in grandpa's shed. Wondered what some of them were for.

I want to be the lady in heels and hat who checks on the cabbage AND I want to know who got a 16 year old girl to dress like that and do grunt work with out her phone. Which reminds me, when was the last time you saw a 14 yo boy with out an electronic game?

That film sure brought back memories of the gardens my parents planted every summer in Idaho. We had about an acre with a milk cow and a good sized garden. My Dad actually used a plow like that into the 1970s. I remember helping them put the potatoes in the ground and planting all those rows. The corn was high enough that it was a great place to hide when we played hide and go seek on a summer evening. I remember helping to can food every fall. There was many a meal that everything on the table was produced on our little farm.

After retirement and a move to the city they still planted a big garden. When my Dad was in his eighties we took turns going to help out. Even in a wheel chair he would sit on the deck and direct us in planting, watering and weeding a garden. I wonder what my Dad would think of my little boxes.

LOL, Dick and Jane. Mixing your own toxic chemicals isn't too cool either, wonder if Dick ended up with cancer from all that dusting. And poor grandpa, how wrong he was about the work bit. Still can't believe I watched the whole video, but it was funny. Though I would like to have that much land, I could SFG and have a large swimming pool, barn, couple of cows and a whole lot of chickens.

Thanks Mel!

I bet it was just good for the kids too! Jane seems to have been alive and kicking at 83, and says in a letter that her "brother" was alive then too. Nice letter from her on here:

Oh my, watched half the video...now I am exhausted! We gardened like that (not horses rofl...) when I was young. And the kids did the work! Weeding and hoeing were daily chores.

Hey, I grew up like that too. There is nothing like the sound of the rain on an outhouse roof! And we had a swimming pool........it was the dugout where we watered the horses and cows. affraid
