3/22 in the STL..

Well, we have had 3 or 4 days in the 70s for highs and upper 50s for lows! My oh my how things have changed. I'll have to get a pic up before too long.

I have had to put bird netting over my hoops because I have a dog that thinks it's a gopher. All the seedlings have been uprooted once or twice, but I just pop them back in the MM and away they go. Thank God for friability!!

Nonetheless the dog has received some stares, points, and threats of going "on tha barbie." Actually, come to think of it, "friability" is a double-edged sword. Best place in a yard for that dog to dig, too.

Well, she can't get in any more. HA!

I took my tomatoes outside to harden them off, along with some peppers. I just put the tray up on the table on the deck. I brought them in at night without any issues. (Of course, I'm going somewhere with this.) I had one huge tomato started. Three smaller beefsteaks going...newly sprouted. A pepper, and a smaller tomato. I actually need to get about 5 other peppers in there because they just popped their heads up yesterday. However, I left the dog outside too long. I got out there and I have two less beefsteaks. So, I put the survivors in the hoops, too.

Either way, the rest are doing great. I have plants finally starting to grow. They are still going slow....likely because their roots keep getting disturbed. But, they are starting to get true leaves now. My peas are going bananas. My first lettuce squares could be harvested, but I would only get salad for one. My broccoli and cauliflower are starting to take off, too.

However, winter isn't done here yet. We have another cold shot coming over the weekend. I need to cover the garden before we leave town for the weekend. I am not worried. I will just cover it on Friday after a huge watering and get it when I come back. I may have to teach someone how to vent the HH, but maybe I get lucky and it's cloudy all weekend.

Why can't I live in Elmira, NY or the PNW when I need clouds the most?

Seventy's/fifty's !?! That sounds like late July in the PNW. WoW

As for all the rain? I'm going to have to replant most of my peas because of record rainfall in March. It has been crazy wet here. Anywhere from half an inch to two inches per night was just too much (while highs in the mid forty’s was not enough). Last year at this time my peas were just topping an inch tall and a very pretty shade of pea green. This year? Pttttttttt.

Deborah....the good news is that the dogs are leaving my friable though saturated mix alone.

Be glad for the dogs leaving things alone. I may expand my business to include the ACME DoggyKeeperOuterFencing. I could charge a premium for this stuff....until the client saw what I used....lol.

Our weather is changing as I type, though. The air outside dropped from 76F to 57F in about 3 hours this evening, and the wind is blowing pretty good. And, anything over 20mph here in STL is seriously windy.

Another week of this bull, and possibly another shot of snow before Old Man Winter retires to the southern hemisphere for good. Let's hope he stays gone a long, long time this year.
