can any of this go in my compost pile?
I have been pulling stuff out of the garage today. A possible buyer for some of the resturant equipment that I have left from when #2 son's resturant went belly up is going to stop by. AND, buried behind some of the boxes I found a box that got missed when we were unloading. It was full of food. All out of date now and has been sitting in the garage for 2 years. Can any of it go into my compost pile?
15 Lbs sugar
3 commercial cans pineapple chunks
15 Lbs grits
8 lbs yellow cake mix
3 bags croutons
4 lbs instant potato buds

I don't see anything in that list that screams "NO" at me...but all that sugar and starch could make a sticky, gooey mess for a while before it breaks down. (I'd be a little concerned about the sugar and starch drawing vermin, too)

I bet the sugar is still good for consumption or canning. Otherwise, I would compost the rest of it, but not the tin cans.
Re: can any of this go in my compost pile?
I wouldn't want to risk consuming the sugar because I bug bombed the garage several times to keep down the critters. Are you SURE cans can't be composed?

hmm, in that case I would suggest perhaps calling your regional waste station and see if it needs different disposal. I myself would not risk putting insecticide in my compost or leaving it out for other critters to consume.
You might be able to make nice garden lanterns out of the cans.
or maybe something else

I have to NOT look at Campern's crafty links, because I already have enough UFOs around here to fill a closet. (UnFinished Objects)

I am TOTALLY making some of those can lanterns! Those would make great gifts, too, for essentially the cost of the paint and I know I have white and green already. I'll just need to add some other colors.
