Why O Why Empty Why O Why

Post  jumiclads 12/19/2010, 7:41 pm

Why is it that when we get a new interest and get excited about it that something always gets in the way and stops you doing it. Since I thought I might try a bit of gardening and found the SFG site the weather has been against me. I have all the ground clear with big heap of soil on and a fence to put up and can't get on with it because the ground is as hard as nails and covered with snow. If I had decided to build a mini ski resort on my garden the sunny woud have come out. I think I will keep my ideas to myself in future and take them by surprise then the weather men can't spoil my fun.

The season will change and you WILL get everything set up. It's going to be GREAT in 2011.

Why O Why Empty A blessing in disguise

Post  Megan 12/19/2010, 9:40 pm

I found SFG last winter. I wanted to get started right away bounce but I had a few feet of snow on the ground at the time...and no good place indoors to start seeds, though I eventually tried that. (Almost all of my plants ended up being direct seeded.) But the downtime was a blessing in disguise, because it gave me plenty of time to read all about SFG, plan my garden, get seeds, etc. I spent literally weeks fussing with planning my grid layout, trying to pay attention to companion planting and then thinking about succession planting. Not sure it had any impact on the final results, but it sure was fun. Enjoy the wait! Very Happy

Why O Why Empty Re: Why O Why

Post  LaFee 12/20/2010, 2:57 am

ain't it the truth?!

I don't know how it is in your neighbourhood, Mick, but here it's been a source of constant attention just watching to see what Mother Nature does next! Yesterday we started with several inches of snow on the ground...by noon it was rain...by nightfall the last of the soggy slush was melted and we had NOTHING on the ground...and now this morning there's a fresh layer of snow and it's still coming down.

I'm SO very glad that we're not traveling for the holidays...and hope everyone else stays warm and safe, whether they're traveling or not!

Why O Why Empty Tough winter

Post  ander217 12/20/2010, 3:35 am

You guys are really getting hammered over there this winter, it seems. I think of you all when I see the weather report for Europe.

Ditto from N. Eastern NC. Since I found this forum, I've been paying more attention to weather in France and England just thinking about the SFGers out there. Also remembering the beautiful flowers I was able to grow during my 2 1/2 years at RAF Croughton, Northamptonshire. Often wish I could spend another summer gardening in England.
