Wow! I have garlic!
I got a beginner's garlic set from SESE and will be planting it tomorrow... but MIL just sent over some absolutely gorgeous-looking garlic cloves which I think she got from a farmer's market... I am torn between eating them and planting them all! Wish I knew what kind they were. Is there a way to tell soft neck from hard neck, just from the clove itself?
Re: Wow! I have garlic!
Congratulations! I'm no garlic expert but i think that if you break apart the bulb to the individual coves and there in a core stalk piece left, that is hardneck garlic. I bought a rope of garlic at the grocery store a few weeks back and the clove were so plump and healthy looking, I planted 40 of them just to see how they go. That was a purple softneck variety.
As to the eating or planting, plant the large cloves and eat the smaller ones. YUMMY!!!

Re: Wow! I have garlic!
They are all loose cloves, and big ones, too.... I guess I will plant some and eat some. So excited!
