My garlic is sprouting!

I planted my garlic on October 4th and I noticed that they have started growing. The tops are about 3 inches tall already. What will happen to them? What should I do?

Wow. A week or two ago, someone sent me what they described as two garlics and it seemed dormant (soil and garlic inside a zip bag) so I set it aside for a while. I looked at it today and !!! it was a mass of green shoots and white roots inside the baggie, so I rushed outside and planted them all. There were over 20 in all. Hope I planted them deep enough!

I would mulch the bed after the ground begins to freeze. The little gems need a wee bit of protection fron the fierce winters in 5a.

My garlic have all sprouted too! I planted six different kinds, placing them in corners and edges of squares throughout my SFG. They seemed unaffected from the frost last night.
I planted shallots last year in October and they all sprouted by November. When you plant shallots you leave part of the tops exposed. They lived under heavy snows and I had a bumper crop when I pulled them this past June! So I am assuming that garlic is similar and will be fine over the winter.
Here's my shallots after pulling them last June:
They were all been cured and dried, and I've enjoying using them in various dishes. When I see the price of three in a package at the supermarket, I'm so glad I grew my own!

Apparently in is not unusual in mild autumns for the garlic to sprout. Mulching the garlic over the winter is recommended. Go back to the main page of the site and enjoy reading all about it. Their photo gallery/calendar is something else!

Those are some good lookin shallots! Mine haven't sprouted yet but they might. It was in the upper 70s today but rainy. I think Monday our high is 78!! It's October!! I did have to pinch a few flowers off my strawberries that I just put to bed for the winter.

It got cold here for a spell and I thouht fall was upon us. But now that it has warmed up everything is going again. Plus I'm new to this whole thing and have no idea what I'm doing!! I dug up all my strawberries, split them, cut them down to nothing, and replanted them. The critters ate all the berries this year so I didn't feel too bad about it. I may let 1 or 2 of the flowers go and maybe enjoy my first strawberry, in the completely wrong season!

+1. Mine are an "ever-bearing variety" but I didn't realize they would keep bearing so late in the year. We rescued a plexiglas dome out of someone's garbage last weekend and put it over them since they don't seem to realize winter is almost here. I will probably harvest more in the next couple of days.

These are my yellow "wild" strawberries that I planted from seed this spring. They are bearing! Happy dance!!!

Some of my garlic has also already put up shoots, dagnabit!

It is funny but when I plant something I NEVER expect it to sprout! LOL. So anything I get seems like gravy - and I have had great luck this year. Yay on the garlic and the strawberries. It always good to see a plan come together!
