What's next? - August
I was inside for 2 weeks because of a plant reaction and the heat. Now I'm looking at the state of the garden. oh my!
1. Should zuchinni plants be starting to die off? I had 3 plants, got maybe 4 squash from them, and a few that started to turn yellow. Not the best year, but my best ever!
2. String beans are done - I might be able to pick a handful more
3. Sugar Peas - first planting done, but I planted a fall crop, and those little guys look good.
4. Tomatoes - Getting lots of cherry tomatoes, but the large ones are still very green.
5. Tomatilla - Harvested the first one!! I didn't get to try it though, hubby threw it into the stuffed zuchinni dish. There are lots of husks on the plants.
6. Peppers - Have 3 plants with no production of blossoms at all.
7. Cucumbers - pickle bush - these are doing OK. We've harvested a bunch. They aren't making it to the pickle juice though, kids love them!
8. Melon - no go
9. Lettuce - all bolted, done for now. The tortoise might not care, I haven't looked that up yet.
10. Kale - cabbage worm moth caterpillars got it
11. Second radish planting - something came and ate it all.
12. Basil - it has bolted, can I still make anything from it? I have sooooo much.
13. Other herbs - They have not gotten any bigger from when I put them in. weird. (Lavender and Rosemary)
Have fun with your answers! haha Thank you!

Basil leaves aren't very good once the plant starts to bloom, but you can cut back the plants and let them re-grow new branches. Then harvest as much as you want, but keep any new flower buds pinched out.
Peppers will not set flowers nor fruit if the temp is in the 90's or above. After the temperature starts dropping, they will start blooming and setting fruit again.
You can cut off the lettuce plants at soil level and succession plant some more in the same location for the fall crop of fresh lettuce. Lettuce leaves are bitter once they bolt to seed.

Would there be a reason my peppers haven't had anything yet before it got hot? I started them from seed and planted them out in May.

Hi!
My basil is bolting. Gonna try a quick trial it is so expensive! Once it bolts it isn’t good.
A lot of my squash is succumbing to squash vine borers (SVBs). Plant dies, tries to keep going. I let it go until it gives up. Harvest what I can. Don’t compost this!
Your tomatoes need time; they have it.
String beans and sugar snaps: right on
Cukes: Good for you!
Lettuces: Over unless you want to try a fall crop
Peppers: crap shoot; some years are good, others. Not so much!
Radishes: Go for it!
Kale—I hate it. I have tried. Valiantly. Can’t do.
