Introducing myself - Ellie from Nova Scotia Canada
Hi there
Just joined following a suggestion by an organizer of the webinar (Plant Pure Communities). I have a couple of questions that might not be answered on that webinar, so I will be able to ask them here.
I have 3 8x4 beds going on their third year - first year great success, second year only mediocre.
Cheers from cold windy international Nova Scotia!

Re: Hello from Nova Scotia!
Thanks or the welcome, all. I am a little confused on the forum as some of the replies to my post seem to come on someone else's post, but I expect I will get used to the format.
I will ask my questions in the appropriate sections. You all seem so organised with such great setups! I am not at that level.

Re: Hello from Nova Scotia!
Thanks! To be fair to myself, last year was a poor year for almost everyone I knew in the province, due to cold wet conditions that persisted into the Spring.
However I didn't take note of the importance of rotating crops and kept the same locations (trying to keep sunny areas for the crops that needed most sun). For someone who has a diploma from a French agricultural college that is really unforgivable. Though in my defence my diploma is in equine nutrition and breeding....
So being whole food plant based, and having a need for highly nutritious foods to keep my health on an even keel (I was seriously sick for 20 years before going plant based), I focus on foods such as kale, arugula, mesclun mix, beets, carrots, tomatoes, squash, zucchini and some broccoli (for the leaves and the heads). I tried peppers but have no greenhouse and they couldn't thrive under the conditions.
I think I got discouraged trying to start my own seeds without proper indoor lighting etc. I put in a lot of work and hope for very little return.

Re: Hello from Nova Scotia!
I am going to guess that you Replied on Luv2Wine's thread instead of starting your own. But no worries, we all do it.Elliek wrote:...I am a little confused on the forum as some of the replies to my post seem to come on someone else's post, but I expect I will get used to the format.
Do take Kelejan's advice and go to your regional forum. Many of do that and start an annual thread.
Oh...and please post pictures...we really love them.

Hello from Nova Scotia!
Yes, because I saw that everyone was replying to my post on that one instead of mine!
I will go to the Canadian section. I didn't see anything like that when I was looking through the forum!

Re: Hello from Nova Scotia!
Elliak, I split the "Hello!" thread and created this one for you.
I grow the same crops in the same beds due to sun requirements and other factors. Rotating crops is not as important with Square Foot Gardening unless there was a diseased crop, which is a different story. Blended compost is added each time one plants, so the nutrition levels stay up with SFG.

Re: Hello from Nova Scotia!
Hope you sorted out the threads Ellie, now you have your very own thread and that means as time goes by, you will know what works and what does not.
I only wish I had started my own thread many years ago, like Trolley Driver did with his personal thread that has been going for several years now.
Best wishes from Kelejan, Canadian Regional Host.
