I plant at 1/sq ft. It's not that you can't plant some other things. It's just that SP vine like crazy and would cover anything you planted. I use storage totes for them for that reason. One year I'm going to get around to making trellises for them as it's hard to walk around that area without tripping on vines.

Oops -- never mind the carrots in the side squares, then. I'll just let the sweet potatoes have that entire bed and plant carrots in the squares vacated by the radishes. Geez, sometimes being a gardener is like being a city planner -- gotta make room for everyone.sanderson wrote:I plant at 1/sq ft. It's not that you can't plant some other things. Re: Sweet potatoes & ??
It all depends on the variety. I grow Beauregard Sweet Potatoes. They grow up to the top of a 10 foot trellis when I grow them. If you do not trellis them the vines can take root and attach themselves to the soil and make new sweet potatoes. So I let them run a bit on the ground and then start them up the trellis. There are bush varieties but I have never grown them so I can't help with that. Here is a picture of my climbing sweet potatoes one year.
