I like your shade cloth! We are in the 100's now and it is an absolute must.
Are you still using the same pruning method on the melons (where you prune after each fruit)?

yes, I m doing that to the melons also. It seems to work. I really like, no loved the hanging method for the cucumbers. If the leaders / suckers don't have any fruit after 12-18" I cut it back the main stem. Next year I'm going to put up hoops over the cucumber and peppers and eggplants. I have a eggplant growing under the shade cloth on the green house and it's doing well, but the one that get partial shade is struggling. I believe you have your garden area under complete shade this time of year. How is doing?

I've been doing something similar with tomatoes this year, but lower tech. I just use a bowline knot to wrap around the plant and an adjustable tarbuck knot at the top to change tension.

I'm guilty of not knowing how to make different knots. I have tried but failed. so the roller is second best for me. easy on and easy off.

I use the smaller ones like those for cucumbers, plus the cmaller green clippy ones. I wash in the fall and reuse the next year. I think mine may last longer than yours because I have shade cloth. ? I now use only green stretchy garden tape for the tomatoes. Long strips from overhead supports and tied to the stems near the bottoms. I just wind the major tomato stems around the tape as they grow taller.

Thanks Sanderson for the tip. I haven't had any experience wrapping twine around the plants till this year. I feeling uncomfortable that I'm going to break the stem but that hasn't happen yet. So I thought I would go back to the clips which I have lots of experience from using the last few years, but I wanted stronger clips. I was hoping someone had invented something more durable.

Gleaning this method has been helpful with keeping the plants organized and easy to do foliar spraying. This is for those who has limited time.

Root nematodes! I'm glad you showed the root system, for those of us who have never experienced it.
