Strawberries and Grasshoppers
My strawberries are doing great this yr. I'm getting at least a quart daily, not counting a few that something is eating holes in.
Today while I was picking, I found a few grasshoppers, yuk!
Will they eat the berries and/or the plants?
What can I do about this? Any hints?
I already put bird netting around the 2 beds 8 x 4, 4 tiers each. This keeps out the birds and deer. I put Sluggo plus on the dirt only, for snails, slugs, insects. But it won't bother grasshoppers unless they do some digging.
Thanks

Re: Strawberries and Grasshoppers
I didn't know grasshoppers would bother them. All I do is keep the berries from touching the ground and I don't have to use Sluggo. I also put chicken wire over them to keep the deer away.littlejo wrote:My strawberries are doing great this yr. This year has been horrible for pests so far, and I don't have any strawberries yet, so I may be in for yet another nasty surprise.
Re: Strawberries and Grasshoppers
I think grasshoppers will eat anything and everything! I saw my first late instar today and failed to catch it will the butterfly net. I foresee a significant population this year. My husband will be watching me running around the back yard trying to catch them.
