Tis the Season For Garden Dreamin’
Got 3 new seed catalogs yesterday, and with the Polar Vortex moving in on us for a couple days, it truly Tis the Season For Garden Dreamin’
I'm going to try some new varieties this year, and already dreaming of the delicious taste they will bring to the table.
One new variety I'm going to try is the Lemon Spice Jalapeno Pepper from Baker Creek
Another new variety I am going to try is the Purple Lady Bok Choy, also from Baker Creek
What new varieties are you trying this year? Got your planting plans already made?

Going to try to grow Scarlet Goji Berries from seeds this year while prepping their spot for transplant next year. I will be taking out a small patch of black cap raspberries that never fruited because of a soil virus, plants looked awesome but no berries. The seeds for the Goji Berries are also sold by Baker Creek. I will supply a link to Rare Seeds/Baker Creek for a picture and description. Just trying to accommodate some perennials as I create more raised beds. Rhubarb and strawberries are also in future plans.

I usually grow 15-20 varieties of tomatoes every year and will be growing for the first time The Rutgers 250 and a Campbell's variety, I got them from Rutgers, which are sort of retro seeds from the 1930s and when New Jersey was the tomato state with Campbell's, Heinz and Hunt's growing tomatoes there.
I am also going to try and grow many new varieties of flowers from seeds, at least to me, to donate to plant sales of different gardening organizations in the area but especially to The Tolland County Master Gardeners annual plant sale in May.
If you are going to dream, dream big!

Nothing new for me but I like to see what others are going to try.

I am thinking of growing corn for the first time in the SFG. Have not yet decided on a variety.

Look carefully at the Days to Maturity. The only variety I have grown is Silver Queen, Silver King and Silver Princess. They all have pretty long days to maturity though and I doubt they would be the variety to grow in Canada.trolleydriver wrote:I am thinking of growing corn for the first time in the SFG. I like purple veggies, they are pretty and easy to find.
Not sure yet, if anything new...Maybe a zucchini. Will try Romanesco again, never had any luck there...
