I know I'm a day early, but I've never grown a pumpkin before and I couldn't wait another minute to show it off. It's just a little guy, but I love it.

Tree beside garden starting to turn color. In a few weeks it will be beautiful.

Ooo, I wish we had pretty trees. Our oaks just go from flat green to flat brown, but they make terrific mulch. Please share again when this one is at its peak of color.yolos wrote:Tree beside garden starting to turn color. In a few weeks it will be beautiful.

Some of my pretty dry beans. And a plastic beetle.
Participants include: Scarlet runner beans, Lazy Wife Greasy, Non-Tough Half-Runner, Marfax, Peregion, Snow Cap -- and a variety of beans and some outcrosses of the Ugandan Bantu bean mix.

Re: November Avatar: "Fabulous Fall!"
Ooo, that looks like a rhinoceros beetle. We used to wear them as jewelry when we were kids. We'd tie a little yarn "leash" around their middles and tie them to pins on our sweaters. (Never for very long -- we always let them go unharmed.) Your beans are gorgeous. They look like polished pebbles.BeetlesPerSqFt wrote:Some of my pretty dry beans. And a plastic beetle.

Can we get the scrolly banner up top updated for November?

Yup, I think it's supposed to a be a rhinoceros beetle. The plastic ones don't need leashes.
The beans are hard to eat because they are so nice to look at. The colors tend to darken as the beans dry. The purple ones are bubble-gum pink when fresh, and the black ones are purple. For Snow Cap the darkening increases the contrast, but for others, the subtle pattern is lost -- it's hard to see dark on darker. I should post close-ups of some of them... but I have a big garden to-do list that should come first.

Re: November Avatar: "Fabulous Fall!"
Beautiful, SR! Our Delicata did not set any fruit this year, and don't know why. They had lots of blooms, both male & female, but not a one of them set fruit. I know it was not a pollination problem, since all of the other summer & winter squash heavily produced.

Re: November Avatar: "Fabulous Fall!"
Interesting that you say that, OG! Because I had planted the same seeds the previous season. Zero germination, re-seeded, just ZERO!! This year, I had 2 container plants,, all good!

Re: November Avatar: "Fabulous Fall!"
Beautiful, OG! I love fall colors and fall weather. We used to do all of our camping in the fall. Those were the good old days. Now it's time for my favorite fall exercise -- raking leaves! YEE-HAH! Mulch in the wild!
