I am about to attempt drunken compost. I just mowed my lawn. I'm going to use my not completely broken downcompost from last year as the brown. My question is about the sprayer. I couldn't find a 20 gallon one at the store. I will try to include pictures of the one I bought. I'm just not sure what setting to put it on. The top turns to 1tsp,1 1/2 tsp, 2 tsps, 1tbs, 4tsp, then ozs from 2 to 8. Will this work if I put it on 8oz or is my mixture not going to be diluted enough?
I just looked at a 20 gallon sprayer on Amazon and it says it sprays 1 2/3 ozs per gallon and mine says to chose the setting per gallon. So I'm assuming I choose either 1 1/2 oz or 2ozs. Sound good?

I have never mastered the art of interpreting the instruction for this. Do I put in the amount of product I want sprayed, then add water to the top? To what do I set the dial?

Here is a common scenario for me. Want to spray the lawn with Liquid Kelp. If I put a cup of liquid in, do I add water? The plain liquid would be sucked out right away if I don't.

Well. I put in 12oz beer, 12oz coke and 8oz ammonia and set it to 2ozs. According to what I read it will mix 2 ozs of my concoction with every gallon of water that goes through. It seemed to work fine other than it's a crappy sprayer and leaked.

I don't normally bother with such things as my hose attached sprayer only has settings 1 to 6 on the dial & a one litre tank .

I  just pour the required quantity of treatment for a known number of square yards in the tank , attach the hose , then spray it on evenly till the container is emptied often marking the lawn up with string & bamboo canes to make 2 square yard blocks .

 Doing the squares thing means I can judge how well I've used  a 1/4 , 1/2 & 3/4 of the treatment over a known area . .

Half of the ones I have bought have leaked. Took them back for exchange until one doesn't leak!

I have messaged the original poster about my experiences with drunken compost, but it should be shared with everybody.

The Drunken Compost at this guy's Youtube site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDPAbkUUT-o&t=205s

definitely works.  I have done it now for 3 years all Spring and Summer long after another SFG friend clued us in to this method.

However, we are 100% organic, and even if you can find organic cola and organic beer, we choose to use the effective ingredients.

1. Instead of cola, we use organic light brown sugar
2. Instead of beer, we use brewer's yeast
3. Instead of ammonia, we use alfalfla meal

Most of all, we don't fool with the sprayer.  I haven't found one that works more than 2 or 3 times.

It isn't rocket science.  Here is how I do it.

I have multiple plastic garbage cans.  I think they are 32-gallon, 45-gallon, and 50-something gallon cans.

I drill 1/2 inch holes all over the bottom of the cans and about 8 inches up the sides.  It is enough to allow drainage and for worms to fins their way inside.

I take the grass clippings and some of our existing compost and fill about 6 inches of the garbage can.  Then, I take a mixture of water, and the 3 key ingredients and pour it in with a water pail.  I repeat in 6-inch layers until it reaches the top, and then I place the cover on the garbage can.

4 days later, I turn it over, placing it in an empty garbage can, and then I repeat on day 6, 8, 10, and 12.  If the weather has cooperated, I have usable compost on Day 14.

If you don't do it exactly the right way, the only result will be that it takes a couple days to a week longer.  I have messed it up a few times and had to go 21 days, but I have it down to 14 days consistently now.

The best thing is that I have more than enough compost when I need it.  I can give some away, and I can water with compost tea every day.  I add humus from our woods after the compost is ready.

Compost tea and epsom salts are the only things we use to feed our garden other than the compost that is in the Mel's Mix.

I have found this composting method to get quite addictive.  It is why I am sitting on the couch with an ice pack consuming anti-inflammatory food.  I turned over 3 cans on the same day, and it was too much, especially since my fork broke, and I had to use a spade.  I'll never do something that stupid again--at least for the next few hours.
