Your plants should do better with the shade you have provided. I'm jealous of the pink tomatoes. Mine are just green babies. It was 104*F here today so the shade cloth needs to go up now.

if I recall you were able to harvest tomatoes all summer after you put the shade cloth up. Is this correct?

I love the hanging system in my SFG. It makes things easy to see what going on at a glance because things are not covered up with many leaves overlapping like when I used the trellis method. It has good air flow. Also, they no leaf death which occurred when new leaves covered the old leaves due to lack of space. In these pictures, you see the trellis in the background, but I don't use it anymore. I will need to find other uses for it in the garden. research and development never stop. Ideas, suggestion are welcome.

I watched the vids you posted about using the hanging system for tomatoes. Very interesting; I'm using the trellis system with nylon netting as Mel advised. I'm not sure I could keep up with the moving of the hanging system, pretty hard on my back to reach over my head and wrap them around like she shows, but it sure looks nice for the plants.

are you talking about this video? the clip is about a foot above my head where I can easily reach it. I just squeeze the clip and the cucumber or what ever it is drop about 6 inches. It stays that way till they get close to the clip again. when the fruit is harvested off the bottom I may remove the leaves. they're pros and cons to every system, even this one of using the hanging system. It's fits my personality and habits.

this is my first true time trying to grow Armenian cucumbers. I have great looking plants, but no fruit. I see side shoots, but I been cutting them back. Do the cucumbers develop on the side shoots? Does anyone have any pictures with the cukes on the plants? This what I have grown. the older leaves have burn spots when I sprayed late AM. I knew better, gambled and lost.

Has, I don't prune my cukes.  No science here, just what I have done. I do not have your heat, however.  Seems like super hot and sunny might need the extra leaf coverage? 

Maybe do a side by side; one pruning, the other, let them trellis?  Taking notes!

SR, my cukes are now under a shade cloth. the other plants (pickle and straight eight) are producing a lots and lots of cukes. the cukes are on the main stem as you can tell from my above two pictures..  So based on the above video from the Asian lady I figured I have the type of cukes that develop the fruit on the runners and may produce later in the season. I just don't have any experience with Armenian. Are growing it? can you put up some picts so I can study it?

for clarification, the Armenian produced their fruit on the runners, right?
Do you know how far the runner go before you see the fruit?
Would you happen to have any pictures from your garden with the fruit on the plant?

I don't grow Armenian cucumbers (a musk melon). Just Muncher, Pickling, and try the lemon and apple flavored ones this year.

I looked at photos of Armenian cucumbers and it seems pretty universal that cucumbers produce on any flowering runner.

It took a lot of research, but I finally figured out this type of cucumber will put out a lot of male flowers first, on the runners, not main stem before producing the female fruit. Sooo, I need to let those runners grow. It was explained in the second group of the above video, but without a list of cucumbers that fall into that group, it was challenging finding the info. Tons and tons of video of growing it on a trellis, but no one explained the male to female ratio. I found the article last night at work, but I didn't save the link or forwarded it to my home email. I will let one runner grow on the trellis behind the cucumbers that growing on the string like my straight 8 and burpless. I will keep the main one on the string and monitor the progress. So I will have two experiments going, which is good. Research and development.

ok, the above video was very helpful. I still learning how to grow Armenian. It seems the Armenian produce lots of male flowers before the female arrives. I now have the females coming on the string hanging system which is very nice. I'm still going to let some grow on the trellis, but I admit I'm leery about doing it. it's a blessing when it filling out and a curse when it overgrows on itself which requires lots of maintenance especially with looking for the fruit, remove the inner dead leaves and fighting fungus from decrease airflow. if someone has a better way of caring for the vines using the trellis, I'm all ears.

question, if you live in the real hot areas like Texas, Nevada, New Mexico, California, etc... how much water do you provide and how often do you water during the heatwave?

That would be me.  100% certainty that I would mess that up.

The reason I do not like this kind of set up is because I like to keep the package (store bought) with all the instructions on the packet.  I did try to enter all the pertinent information in an excel spreadsheet but it is just not the same as looking at the seed packet for the information.

yea, after I posted and took a closer look at the idea, I also believed it's not the best idea. If I recall, I think there a thread about seed saving, organizing ideas on this site.

The great thing about SFG is that most of these products are not needed.
