Sorry its late but this is the first of our fall garden reports we have been working hard to get our gardens ready and only now have time to do our usual picture and video filled reports.  We tore out our ole 15 year old box and built a bigger new bed for our garlic so this is garlic 2.0  Hope you enjoy our story and let us know any tips comments or questions we will do our best.

Cappy: I have a garlic question for you. I planted my garlic around the 1st of October this year in zone 6a (Way to early).  It started growing right away so I put about 10 inches of wood chips on top hoping it would stop the growth. It didnt. The garlic keeps growing and reaching for the light. Some of it is 8 to 10 inches tall now.

My question is: Do you think the winter will Kill the garlic or will it come back next year?  Thanks.

Garlic needs a strong root system established going into the winter freeze. I've had garlic stems well on their way when freeze came in, they fizzled up and came back nice when warm weather arrived...Garlic needs natural stratification to develop properly. They require feeling temperatures dropping to below freezing.
My beds freeze solid, just like an ice cube, all grows back nicely.
