This afternoon, after labouring in the garden placing compost and wood chips on top of my garlic and tulip beds, I enjoyed two and a half hours of listening and watching Vladimir Jurowski conducting the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment performing  Beethoven's excerpts from his No.4, and No.7 Symphonies.

This was on our British Columbia Knowledge Network, similar to PBS but strictly for we British Columbians.

It was new to our network, and without the bi-monthly program I had to wait for the end credits to find more about it.

It was performed in 2010 in Paris in the Champs Elysia? Theatre.

I had better get my subscription sent in again as I really enjoy many of their offerings and I like to plan ahead especially in the winter months when more classical music, opera and dance etc are aired.

This concert made me remember  one of the highlights of my school life. I had come second in an adjudicated competition for piano, and we two were taken on a trip to The Royal Albert Hall in London, to listen to the London Philharmonic Orchestra performing Beethoven's Fifth conducted by von Karajan. The first time I had ever listened to a live performance.  It was magic.

At school, I played the piano; and flute and cello in our school orchestra.

Kelejan ... You mentioned Royal Albert Hall. That reminded me of something that took place when I was a boy in England. I was a member of a church choir.  On my 8th birthday the choir visited London and we got to sing in Royal Albert Hall and in Westminster Abbey. Since I was the youngest member of the choir and it was my birthday, I had my photograph taken with an official (I think it was the organist) at Westminster Abbey and that photo appeared in some British newspapers.
