What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
This morning I picked a big dish pan full of long beans, and 11 cucumbers with the promise of more in a day or 2. My pretty Peggy ponders the possibility of pickling what i picked. Now I am wondering if I can get the spring carrot patch picked I am beginning to worry that they are long enough to reach the ground water and rot.

Well I got the carrots up and was disappointed. Got a dish pan full but many are tiny. WE weren't home to thin them and weed them and care for them during their growth spurt. Not only that they were the wrong carrots we usually get a thick short variety and these are very long and thin. Oh well we will try again in the fall.
Re: What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
We are currently picking cucs and long beans every other day. Peggy put up her first batch of pickles.
Re: What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
I picked my SECOND batch of broccoli.. I cut my first batch (they were all around 6 inches) and had read somewhere to leave it and it would grow more and it sure did! Within about 10 days I was able to pick another large batch with each being little ones but still.... Also picked bell peppers and lots of jalopeno peppers. I have a lot of tomatoes on the vines but nothing ripe yet, but I did pick 4 worms off my tomato plants.

I'm about to pick and eat a radish micro-green -- my new favorite garden snack.
Re: What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
I've been harvesting a handfull of arugula, a little cilantro, and a couple tomatoes every day for salads for the last week. I also grab a couple oranges and lemons most days.

Harvested spinach, lettuce, and radishes from the cold frame today. Last of the radishes. I wish I had planted another batch of seeds, but it is too late to start them now.

Kohlrabi leaves (for stir fry), mystery lettuce, merveille lettuce, Russian kale, Italian kale, arugula.
The Italian kale is technically in a SFG, though I built the SFG around it.
Mystery lettuce -- I'm not buying packages of mixed lettuce again!

Out here in New Orleans...
I'm picking some broccoli, though most has gone to flower. Had a lovely breakfast salad topped with broccoli flowers this morning. I picked an assortment of lettuces and rocket from the garden and threw those in, too.
Also picked some green onions, cilantro, cutting celery, and a small green bell pepper.

Thanks! I enjoyed it! My first time intentionally eating the broccoli flowers instead of having a few still attached to the broccoli head.sanderson wrote:Lil Bean, that salad looks delicious!

Picking more broccoli side shoots, arugula, lettuces, and green onions today. Finally have some flowers on my tomato plants.

Re: What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
Yolos, do you expect a spring harvest from the planting? Or, have you remove them?
I'm so excited that I shelled 1 1/4 cup of peas. A record for me. I have already blanched, frozen and vacuum sealed them.

Eight carrots , the biggest some three inches thick and nearly a foot long …. I'll be making 4 pints of carrot & coriander soup later on tonight . bagging it & deep freezing them .
Still a few carrots left in the bed which I thought I'd have cleared out entirely ready for setting up for spring . Maybe more C&C sup to be made tomorrow and I'll slap a few pounds of blanched frozen carrots in 6 ounce vac packed heat sealed bags in the freezer also .
Carrots( 100 plus ??? ) from the other carrot bed will get turned into thick high carrot content + veg & chicken soup on Monday along with the remains of the roast chicken from Sunday once it's been pressure cooked for chicken stock .
We are still using our home grown onions too , but not for much longer as we have only one 3 pound bunch & a couple of loose ones left .

Re: What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
I thought about getting a spring harvest from my fall planting but they are kind of ragged. I did cut down half of the pea plants down to about 6 inches to see if they will regrow more . But I will probably just replant them.sanderson wrote:Yolos, do you expect a spring harvest from the planting? Or, have you remove them?

More broccoli side shoots, garlic greens, baby lettuces, more yellow carrots. First year growing yellow carrots; they are delicious!
Re: What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
2 tiny Serrano peppers. I grow these for granddaughter. She'll be here today, so I'll hand them off, then.
Nice bunch of purple basil. Gave that to son, yesterday.
Doncha love growing stuff for family and friends?
