New from Pollock Pines, CA
Hi,
I just got myself a plot in our community garden, and overheard somebody mention square foot gardening. The term sounded familiar, probably from a bookstore somewhere. Anyway, I've been reading and will be using this in my garden. Very much a beginning gardener, but will be learning fast.
We're at about 4000 feet, so our season is a bit shorter than in other parts of California.

Re: New from Pollock Pines, CA
Ken,
to the SFG Forums! I looked up Pollock Pines and it looks like you are near Sacramento in zone 8a. We are also in the same Region -- Northern California & Coastal Valleys. We have a special Regional Forum for our area and we hope you will join us!
You will find the folks on the SFG forum are very supportive and caring. It would be great if you would share with us your progress as you use SFG techniques and we love pictures.
The forum is also a great place to find answers to common questions. The search function makes it easy to find answers to questions previously discussed or post a new topic to start a new conversation.
What size boxes are you building and what are you going to plant first? Since I am at a lower elevation (East SF Bay Area), we already have quite a bit planted. I purchased some starter plants just to get a jump start and already have a tomato, and zucchini with flower buds on them. Not sure they will do anything, but it is exciting nevertheless as this is our first SFG and the first time our plants are actually thriving.

Shoda,
Thanks for the reply. I've never been able to tell exactly what zone we're in because I can't find a detailed enough map. We're right in an area where five zones are very close to each other, but 8a sounds about right.
Thanks again, and I'll keep you posted on my garden.
